Murphy Prototypes, Ireland’s sole representatives at the top level of Prototype endurance racing, was handed one of the highly sought after invitations to race at the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans by the organisers, the ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest). Taking part in what will now become the team’s fourth participation in the World’s greatest and toughest motor race since making their debut in 2012, the event will once again be the highlight of their season.
So far the team’s best result came in 2013, finishing the event 12th overall and sixth in class. 2014 however, was much more trying for the team lead by Dublin based Entrepreneur Greg Murphy. Despite setting the pace during much of the pre-event practice days, the notoriously challenging nature of the event would hit the team hard, retiring from the race just before the half way mark. Team Principal, Greg Murphy is very clear that his team, affectionately known globally as ‘#MurphysMen’ will be back wiser and stronger in 2015: “I love the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but 2014 was very disappointing and difficult. But we learned a great deal and we are now a better team for that.” Greg went on to thank the ACO for granting his team an invitation to their special event: “We are very grateful to the ACO for being kind enough to choose us again for 2015. This time, we will not let ourselves or them down!”
In addition to being granted an entry to the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Murphy Prototypes will once again return to the European Le Mans Series, a championship which they have participated and enjoyed multiple podiums in since 2012. With a number of significant announcements due in the coming weeks, Greg is very clear about his objectives for the 2015 Championship: “We are trying to put together the best possible combination at the wheel for 2015. We can set fastest times and win races, this year we will be aiming to add consistency as the final ingredient for success. Now that our programme of desired events for 2015 has been confirmed, we will be making some exciting announcements in the coming weeks and look forward to getting our season underway at the Prologue in Paul Ricard.”
