Irish Custom Bike Building World Champion Returns
- AMD World Custom Bike Building Championship qualifier and Ireland’s first International Freestyle Stunt Riding Competition title up for grabs
The bold, brave and beautiful of the motorbike world will be on show in Dublin when Ireland’s qualifier for the AMD World Custom Bike Building Championship returns to the RDS at the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show at the end of this month.
And visitors are in for a double treat this year, with Ireland’s first ever International Freestyle Stunt Riding Competition, Ace Global Stunt Starz, also taking place at the popular show, which runs from February 27th to March 1st.
For the 50 custom bike builders entered into the AMD Competition, there are two top titles to be won – Ireland’s Champion and 1st International Winner – and a prize fund of €4,500 in cash and Zodiac product vouchers worth €5,500 is up for grabs.
The winners automatically qualify to enter the AMD World Championship. In 2013, the Irish Champion, Don Cronin won the AMD World Finals. This year, Don Cronin and Michael O’Shea of Medaza Cycles’ will be back to defend their Irish title, showcasing their 2013 winning bike ‘Rondine’ and their newest creation. But they face stiff international competition from some of the most recognised custom bike builders from all over Europe, as the standards they have set have become the benchmark all over the world.
Visitors to the show will have the opportunity to see why this competition has achieved its international recognition and enjoy something that has in recent years become an art form in itself. Among the incredibly ornate and intricate bikes on display will include creations from respected builders like Larry Houghton, who will have two bikes on display, Pete from Rocket Bobs and the recent winner of the CRAZIEST bike in Europe, René van Tuil, from Holland.
Ruth Lemass, event organiser, commented: “Having an Irish AMD World Champion in 2013 is incredible when you consider that they beat off competition from thousands of entrants from over 23 counties. Irish professional custom bike builders have become very well respected and known around the world for their individuality, creative and innovative designs, innovative engineering as well as their masterfully ornate paint work. I have seen some of the designs that will be displayed and I firmly believe that we may just have the next AMD World Champion competing at the event.”
Ireland is now firmly established as a key AMD affiliate for the World Championship with both Irish and International winners going forward to the AMD World Finals. The successful builders will be chosen by an International panel of highly qualified independent judges.
Ruth Continued: “This part of the show is always a firm favourite with visitors who really enjoy casting their votes to determine the winner of the popular and prestigious People’s Choice award. Every year it seems that the standard of engineering, custom paint work and uniqueness of design surpasses the one before.”
A second title up for grabs at the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show is Ireland’s first ever International Freestyle Stunt Riding Competition – Ace Global Stunt Starz. Organised in association with Ace Cafe London, ICON and Irish Freestyle Stunt Series, the competition has attracted many of Europe’s best stunt riders from the UK, France and Poland. 25 top stunt riders will compete on a daily basis for a cash prize fund of €5,000 with the winner and runners-up been announced on Sunday at 5pm. They will compete for the title of ‘Ace of Aces’ who will win a trip for two to attend and compete in Ace Cafe’s Annual Stunt Fest & Streetfighter Show, at Wembley Stadium in London, on July 25-26, 2015.
