Jordan Dempsey got his 2015 Ginetta Junior Ireland season off to a strong start at Mondello Park last weekend finishing third in race one before converting his superb qualifying run netting pole position to win the second and final race of the weekend.
Jordan enjoyed a strong debut season in 2014 becoming the championship’s youngest race winner on course to finishing fourth overall in the series. However a new car for 2015 appeared to be the final piece of the jigsaw required to unleash the true pace of the Westmeath based youngster.
Setting pole position for both of Sunday’s races, Jordan got off to a nervous start in race one. Getting caught out with oil on the track early in the race and falling slightly down the order, Dempsey quickly worked his way back up through the field setting a number of fastest laps including beating the class lap record twice on his way to finishing third.
Starting race two once again from pole position, Dempsey found himself locked in battle with race one winner James Roe after missing a gear on the second lap and falling to third. However Jordan was keen to open his racing winning account as quickly as possible in 2015. A superb run into turn one just after the half way point in the race allowed Dempsey to move into the lead which he would go on to secure to the flag.
Speaking after the race, a clearly satisfied Dempsey reflected on a successful opening weekend to his 2015 Championship campaign: “I’m very happy to get two pole positions that were a second under the lap record which reflected our testing pace during the week. My race starts were good but I just got caught out with oil on the track in race one and missed a gear in race two which left me with some work to do. I worked my way back up to third in race one and won race two by over four seconds, which was great. Thanks to my Dad, Team MCP, Mullingar Car Pre-Testing and P1 Digital for their support.”
