Rising Irish Motor Racing star Sean Doyle, From Wicklow, took another win in the ASK Supercar Championship at Mondello Park on Sunday June 7th and despite a non-finish in the second race of the weekend retained his championship lead.
Nissan Generation Next ambassador Doyle, has dominated the ASK Supercar results this season and Sunday’s race one win made it five wins from five races. Doyle started from second on the grid behind fellow single seater exile Peter Barrable but was not headed for long. At the end of lap one Doyle got a fantastic run through the fast right hander on to the Mondello Park International Track’s long back straight and by the end of it he was through into a lead he would not lose.
Having over come his brake problems from earlier in the year Doyle was confident he could continue his winning ways in the second race but a poor start was the catalyst for his eventual retirement. The Murphy Prototypes Young Driver was slow away, allowing Barrable to take the lead with fourth placed starter Graeme Colfer on his tail. Colfer misjudged how far he was ahead of Doyle and the two collided at the first turn with Doyle continuing and Colfer spinning out. Doyle set off after Barrable but before he had a chance to try and close the gap he was halted by suspension problems cause by the first corner impact.
Barrable went on to win the race but even a non-finish was not enough to rob his young Wicklow rival of the championship lead, as Doyle still holds a single point advantage. Speaking after race two Doyle said, “It wasn’t my best weekend but I’m still happy with the outcome as I have another win to my name and still lead the championship. I’d like to thank everyone who helped me to be out on track this weekend, Nissan, SKC Providers, BOSS Security, Wicklow Tyres, Murphy Prototypes and Oxygen Health and hopefully I can do a better job for them all next time. We don’t race again until July so now my thoughts are turning to Le Mans. I’m really looking forward to this coming weekend as I am heading over to the Le Mans 24 hour race to work once again with Murphy Prototypes.”
Sean will be back on track in the ASK Supercar Championship at Mondello Park on Sunday July 12th
