21 year-old Cian Carey from Ratoath, County Meath, has been selected as the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Month for May. Cian’s performances during the month included victory and fastest lap in the Boss Ireland Formula Libre race at Bishopscourt, and fourth place at Kirkistown. He currently holds fifth position in the 2 litre class championship.
Cian began motor racing in 2011 at the age of 16, driving a Honda Civic in the Irish Touring Car Championship, going on to finish as runner up the following year, after scoring four race wins.
In 2013, he switched to the Formula Libre class, driving a Tatuus Formula Renault, and won the “Driver of the Year” title in that class.
Cian works as a final year apprentice in the family business, Mooretown Precision Engineering, who are also his principal sponsor. He plans to complete this year’s Boss Ireland Formula Libre Championship and also to contest a number of European races, including one at Paul Ricard circuit in France, and a major series on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in September.
Having been selected as the second Dunlop Driver of the Month for the 2015 season, Cian is now a contender for the prestigious Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy. This award is presented annually and is supported by Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
