A stellar performance by KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) in Asian Formula Renault’s third event highlighted BlackArts Racing by KCMG driver Dan Wells and Garnet Patterson’s race winning drives over the weekend. The two-race challenge was dominated by the Hong Kong-based team after Wells and Patterson concluded Rounds 5 and 6 of the Asian series with podium finishes, highlighting Wells’ double victory at Zhuhai International Circuit.
Wells reigned supreme throughout Asian Formula Renault’s latest outing, which saw a competitive field of 16 cars from two classes battle for much-coveted championship points. The BlackArts Racing by KCMG driver’s perfect weekend underlines two peerless lights to flag victories, which catapults him to the top of the Asian series’ Drivers’ standings.
Patterson was also in top form and claimed his fifth podium finish in the highly contested Asian entry-level series. After qualifying in third and fourth position on the starting grid for Races 5 and 6, the Australian driver went on and challenged his British teammate for the lead for a number of laps during Saturday’s race. Ultimately, Patterson finished the weekend’s first 10-lap affair on the podium after crossing the finish line in second place.
The final race of the weekend proved to be a tough one for the Australian driver, as he was unable to recover his position after dropping three places down the field. Ultimately, Patterson had to settle for a fifth place finish in Race 6.
Garnet Patterson: “We had our highs and lows in Zhuhai. Qualifying results was not so strong but with the competitive pace in Race 1, I put up a good fight challenging for the lead and coming home close second. It was a disappointing finish to the weekend with fifth place in Race 2. The car didn’t have the pace it had the previous day due to the changing track conditions and showers. Massive thanks to my sponsors Quirindi Tyre Service and Bayliss Trading for their valued support and the whole team at KCMG.”
Dan Wells: “It feels great for our team to put in such a dominant performance and I’m looking forward to building on this even further at the Shanghai F1 track on July 10-11.”
John O’Hara, KCMG Deputy Managing Director: “Wrapping up the Zhuhai event with two victories is an excellent result for the team. Everybody did an outstanding job, and our success over the weekend would not have been possible without the hard work of the crew, engineers and most of all, Dan and Garnet. Our aim is to win the championship and we’re looking to continue this winning form in Shanghai next month.”
KCMG currently leads Asian Formula Renault’s Overall Team Standings with Dan Wells on top of the Drivers’ leaderboard, followed by Garnet Patterson. To find out more about Asian Formula Renault, visit www.frdsports.com/en/AFR
