Kildare’s Jake Byrne had another perfect day in Kirkistown, Northern Ireland on Saturday as he took pole position, fastest lap and two strong wins in Formula Ford 1600.
Having tested well, Jake once again was fastest in qualifying and so lined his Challenger Lighting backed Ray GR13 up on pole position for the first race. When the lights went out, he made no mistakes to cross the line for another impressive win. Race two, was pretty much a carbon copy with the young Kildareman leading from lights to flag for his seventh win at the fast former airfield circuit, increasing his championship lead in the process.
Jake has already been nominated for the Motorsport Ireland/Irish Sports Council Young Driver of The Year due to his 2015 performances and as well as finishing the NI Championship, he will travel to the UK later in the year to compete in the world famous Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy meetings at Brands Hatch and Silverstone respectively.
Jake Byrne: “Another great day at Kirkistown. We have gone well there all year and won both races last time out- but you still can’t get complacent, there are some very quick guys out there. The car was perfect though and it was one of those days. To come away with two pole positions, two wins and a fastest lap is very satisfying. I have also increased my lead in the NI Championship to 50 points, so it is all going to plan at the moment.”
Jake Byrne’s next race is back at Kirkistown on July 25th.
