Kelly leads as Jennings charges after Day 1 of Ulster Rally
At the end of the first day of the Todd’s Leap Ulster Rally, the current leader of the TROA Championship Donagh Kelly in his Ford Focus WRC heads the field by 24 seconds from Desi Henry in his Skoda Fabia S2000.
Holding a comfortable third position is Stephen Wright from Monaghan in his Ford Fiesta R5 just ahead of Garry Jennings in his Subaru Impreza WRC who is on a charge up the field having lost time on the first stage with a mechanical issue. He lies fourth overnight but still has work to do tomorrow to realise his ambition of three consecutive wins.
The Ulster National Rally is led by Derek McGeehan in his Mini WRC who lies fifth, closely followed by Jonny Greer in his Citroen DS3 R5 in sixth. Derek McGarrity struggles in 7th place after he clipped his nearside front wheel damaging the alloy.
Jon Armstrong in his Peugeot 208 and Robert Duggan in his Ford Fiesta R2 continue to battle it out in eighth and ninth, while Frank Kelly ends the day in tenth after finishing the second run through the Knockmany Stage with no spot lights.
Two retirees this evening included Declan Campbell in his Mark II with mechanical issues and Ian Dickson in his Fiesta ST with a blown engine.
