Dempsey’s double win secures Ginetta Junior Ireland title
June’s 2015 Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Month, Jordan Dempsey, has won the 2015 Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship, after showing a clean pair of heels all day in the final two rounds at Mondello Park.
Qualifying looked like a routine affair for the super cool Dempsey. Topping the time sheets from the start, Jordan placed his MCP prepared Ginetta on pole position, for both of the day’s races.
A good start in race one allowed Dempsey to lead into Mondello’s newly named first corner, Mobil 1 corner. Almost a second clear of the field as the leaders crossed the start finish line at the end of the opening lap, Dempsey started to open an extensive lead, something which hasn’t been common place this season. However, Jordan’s luck was set to take a slight change, as a safety car inside the final eight minutes, wiped out Dempsey’s extensive advantage at the head of the field and allowed championship rival James Roe to close right in for the restart. Defending his inside line into the first corner as the safety car pulled off the circuit, Jordan remained in the lead in what would be an action packed shootout to the finish. Coming out of the final corner on the approach to the chequered flag, it became a drag race to the line but it was Dempsey who managed to secure the win by a slender two tenths of a second.
Starting again from pole position in race two, Jordan once again placed his Kildare Crash Centre backed Ginetta firmly into the lead rounding the first corner. From there, it became another textbook performance from the 15 year old fifth year student, winning the second and final race by over 16 seconds, and with it, becoming the 2015 Ginetta Junior Ireland Champion. In addition, Jordan was also awarded the prestigious AIF Trophy.
Jordan Dempsey – #3 MCP Ginetta G20:
“What a year it’s been! Today was really good, I really wanted to try and get the championship sorted in race one, so I could relax a bit in race two and that’s just what I did! Huge thanks to Mum, Dad, Wesley, Grandad, Kildare Crash Centre and P1 : Digital. Now for whatever the end of this year brings…!”
