All Set to reap the Harvest…
Callum Devine, the Co. Derry 21 year old returns to the tarmac roads in the Donegal hills this weekend for the Harvest Stages Rally, based in the Inishowen region of the county.
Callum returns to the business of driving this weekend, with Limerick navigator Keith Moriarty, after a very successful day out at the Legenderry Car Show in Ebrington square in Derry a few weeks ago, giving the general public an insight into Irish Rallying with a guided tour around the Opel ADAM R2.
Callum, who received a free entry to Wales Rally GB for the final round of the World Rally Championship, is coming into the Harvest Rally after having a character building event at the Ulster Rally in August.
Callum commented “The Ulster (Rally) was an event of frustration for both me and Keith, getting used to a new navigator took a bit of time, then following that we had brake problems and a few overshoots, but we know the speed is there it’s just getting everything together now and the times will come.”
The Harvest Rally starts on Saturday morning from the An Grainan Hotel, Burt with 3 stages, done 3 times, taking in stages in the Grainan, Halfway and Buncrana areas. Being the Final round of the Border Championship the event has once again attracted a hugely competitive entry.
Callum, seeded at 47, leads the class 2 battle away, with the current national junior champion Cormac Phelan seeded just behind in the Citreon R2, the major rival to the Opel ADAM R2 crew this weekend.
Callum went on to say “I am really looking forward to getting back out in the car now. We have had a short test and we think we have got to the bottom of the brake problems that plagued us at the Ulster. The event gives us a great opportunity to work on our notes for next year and might even give us an opportunity for a Billy Coleman nomination.”
