Byrne is Motosport Ireland Young Driver Of The Year!
At a prestigious awards ceremony in Dublin, Kildare’s Jake Byrne was named as the Motorsport Ireland/Irish Sports Council Young Racing Driver of Year 2015.
This tops off an incredible season for the Trinity College Engineering student, who claimed ten wins en route to two championship wins at the wheel of his ABR Ray GR13 Formula Ford machine.
Motorsport Ireland originally named Jake as Driver Of The Month for April. This meant he was one of six drivers nominated for the prestigious Young Driver of the Year award. Following a subsequent interview process, three drivers were shortlisted. At the annual Motorsport Ireland Awards Lunch yesterday, Jake was named as the winner, receiving the famous Sexton Trophy. His prize for winning the award, which is supported by the Irish Sports Council and Dunlop, is a fully funded season in Formula Ford 1600- in both the UK and Ireland.
Jake Byrne: “I am obviously delighted to win this amazing award. We worked really hard all year and I had help from some wonderful people. My Dad in particular, gave me a really good car- the rest was up to me. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my sponsors- Challenger Lighting, Punchestown Racecourse, Reeltech, Grrana Energy, Gearboxman.com and E Fox Engineers. I’m already looking forward to next year and expect more wins and championships! “
