21 MYGALE Cars For Formula 4 SEA
For the new Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, French racing car manufacturer Mygale is to be the exclusive race car supplier. Mygale previously manufactured the race cars for the Formula BMW Asia Pacific championship and are the most recognised and trusted supplier of single-seater racecars to Asia and the Middle East.
The Asian Autosport Action (AAA) Group has ordered 21 Mygale chassis for the upgrade of their successful AsiaCup series which has used 22 Mygale Formula BMW chassis for the past three seasons.
The main man behind the deal is Wexford’s Peter Thompson, CEO Mertius GP: “Meritus.GP has been a client of Mygale for almost 20 years and this strong relationship, as well as Mygale’s excellent safety and service record, was key to choosing them as our official F4 chassis supplier.”
Bertrand Decoster, Chairman of MYGALE explains: “The highest levels of innovation in terms of safety have been incorporated into the F4 chassis which will be identical whether run in Australia, China or Europe. The FIA requested our chassis to be compatible with FIA standards with front and rear impact-absorbing structures including anti-intrusion side panels, roll hoops, removable seat, head restraint, wheel restraint cables, on-board fire extinguisher, retractable steering wheel and column, for instance.”
Formula 4 South East Asia is part of the FIA F4 global format and is the first step on the Asian motorsport ladder to professional careers in the sport. The top seven drivers in the F4 SEA championship will receive FIA Super Licence points, with the winner receiving 12 Super Licence points.
Organised as an FIA single organisation championship, the new F4 SEA championship is designed with the objective of ensuring a cost-effective transition into formula racing with a 30 race programme for Euro€100,000. This fee is within the FIA recommended driver fee for a full season of F4 racing, and to date it is the best F4 deal on the market. While Triple A is the Promoter, the Meritus.GP team is the exclusive race engineering services supplier.
F4 SEA becomes the only FIA-certified entry-level single-seater racing championship in South East Asia, and like its predecessor the AsiaCup Series, it will create a pool of talented drivers to lead us into the next decade.
Peter Thompson advises: “Meritus.GP have already helped four Asian drivers to achieve their dreams in F1 and we believe the FIA F4 series will be the catalyst to enhance grids of young drivers seeking professional careers in the sport – an important first step on the ladder towards higher levels of motorsport, providing a great opportunity for up-and-coming young talent to experience the same development platform as any other country in the world, at at excellent price”.
Firhat Mokhzani, Managing Director of Triple A says: “This is a very safe chassis using the latest technology and have every confidence in Mygale. With the Formula 4 South East Asia Championship concept, everything is equal, and the championship fee is cheaper than most international kart championships.”
Certified by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) with the AAM as the lead FIA affiliate, the Formula 4 South East Asia Championship is an upgrade of the current AsiaCup Series. The provisionally scheduled calendar will commence on the 6/7 August at Sepang and the FIA F4SEA franchise will see events hosted in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and India.
The full calendar will be announced in March.
