Road to Indy prize lures Murray back to F Ford 1600
SEAT Supercup Ireland Champion Niall Murray, will make a return to single-seater racing for 2016 having confirmed a deal to race in the BRSCC British National Formula Ford 1600 Championship.
The chance to get his hands on a funded drive in the USA for 2017 was a major factor in Murray’s decision to return behind the wheel of his Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival winning Van Diemen RF99.
With a proven car underneath him, Niall’s bid for the title will be further boosted in 2016, as he returns to Bernard Dolan Motorsport, a team he enjoyed much success with in 2014, during his time as the Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year. Fresh from winning the BRSCC title in 2015, Dolan’s team will easily be one of the favourites to repeat that feat this year.
Murray’s season which is again being supported by Murray Motorsport, OMP, CL Brakes, SuperB Lithium Batteries, Motorsport Ireland and P1 : Digital gets under way at Oulton Park in early April. Murray is no stranger to dominating at Oulton Park in the past, with a double victory in Ginetta Juniors in 2012, he will be looking to get his 2016 campaign off to a strong start.
Niall Murray – #5 Bernard Dolan Motorsport Van Dieman RF99:
“I’m delighted to finally have a programme in place to go back to the UK for 2016. It will probably be the most competitive season of the British Formula Ford 1600 championship with about five potential champions already announced. With the new prize to be in with a chance of a funded season in the USA for 2017, it really adds an extra bit of spice to things. I’m really looking forward to working with Bernard Dolan again, I am confident that the car will be 100% every time I get into it, so now I’m just looking forward to getting the testing programme under way.”
