Jake Byrne is new Road Safety Ambassador for Kildare
Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year Jake Byrne has teamed up with Kildare Road Safety Authority for 2016 and will be involved in a number of campaigns aimed at improving road safety.
His first task as Road Safety Ambassador will be to attend the “Safer Roads Exhibition”, which takes place in the Punchestown Event Centre outside Naas, on Sunday April 10th. Jake will discuss road safety with young drivers as well as the general public who attend the free event.
Having taken a pair of dominant wins in the Global GT sportscar series at Mondello Park last month “just for fun”, the 21 year old Trinity Engineering student heads to Kirkistown in Northern Ireland this weekend for a more serious challenge- as a prelude to an assault on the UK FF1600 series this year. Driving the Motorsport Ireland/Sports Ireland Van Diemen car, he will face competition from a host of local drivers as well as Jordan Dempsey (Mullingar) and James Roe (Naas), who both intend to also compete in the UK this year.
Jake Byrne, Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year/Kildare Road Safety Ambassador: “I am very happy with this new association. Declan (Keogh) has been working hard on the Safer Roads exhibition and it will be great to have an involvement. In terms of racing, it was great fun to get back behind the wheel at Mondello Park in the Global and I’ll never say no to a few more wins. Things will be a little more serious when I climb into my new FF1600 this weekend, I can’t wait!”
Declan Keogh, Kildare County Council Road Safety Officer, “‘Having Jake on board as an Ambassador is a huge bonus to us and a great benefit to our Safer Roads event because of his age profile, his experience on the track and his reach and following in terms of the audience of what we call YMD; Young Male Drivers. YMD’s relate to Jake and listen to the advice he gives so I am delighted to have him on board as an ambassador for Kildare Road Safety.”
