Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of The Year Jake Byrne has announced that he will leave the 2016 Young Driver of The Year programme with immediate effect.
Having encountered a number of issues in his UK Formula Ford campaign, the prize for winning the MI/Sports Ireland Young Driver of The Year Award, and with no solutions forthcoming to remedy these, Jake has made the decision to end his campaign immediately, and will not compete at Rockingham this weekend.
Jake Byrne, Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year/Kildare Road Safety Ambassador: ” I feel I have no choice here. I have had issues from day one and I have had a few meetings and there were some suggested solutions but unfortunately none of these have materialised, my only alternative is to withdraw from the prize drive. I don’t feel the support I was promised was forthcoming and I will now reconsider my options going forward for 2016.”
