Reigning Irish Touring Car Production Champion Grzegorz Kalinecki and his Sportchip.ie team continued their domination of the Irish Touring Car Championship when the Teng Tools supported series returned to Mondello Park last weekend.
Now competing in the Super Touring class of the championship and having taken two wins at Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland last month, the team were confident ahead of the June Mondello meeting and tested successfully prior to the event.
Having qualified on pole position, Kalinecki was beaten off the line by the fast starting Mazda RX-7 of Shane Rabbitt but reasserted his authority at the front within a couple of corners before pulling away for yet another strong win. In race two, with the grids reversed, the Turboman.ie backed Golf was last away but by the second lap was already back at the head of the field and en route to win number two. Kalinecki now leads the ITCC series outright with all remaining rounds to be held at the Kildare venue.
Grzegorz Kalinecki, Sportchip.ie “It was a good weekend for us. We had a good test and the Golf is going really well. It was a shame some of the other frontrunners were not out this weekend, as I would have preferred a battle. Hopefully they will be back for out next round in July.”
