Podium placing for Matt Griffin in Spa 4-hours
Award winning Irish sports car racing ace Matt Griffin shared a podium place in the Le Mans GTE category of the European Le Mans Series 4 hour race at Spa Francorchamps, the home of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. Griffin and
his Team AF Corse co-drivers brought their Ferrari F458 Italia to third position, one lap down on the winning car.
The Corkman was the only one of the four Irish drivers in the race to make it to the finish. Wicklow’s Sean Doyle didn’t even get a chance to drive the Murphy Prototypes Oreca as one of his co-drivers crashed out before Doyle’s
first scheduled stint, while the Ligier which Kildareman Kevin O’Hara and Dubliner Dan Polley drove for Spanish team SPV Racing was also a retirement.
At home, Tyrone drivers dominated the two Carlow rounds of the Hewison Autotest Championship, with six times champion Steven Ferguson winning at Garryhill in torrential rain on Saturday, while Paul Mooney, who also won
the two opening rounds in Cork earlier this month, came out on top yesterday to increase his points lead in the series.
