Fenton on the Double at Mondello
15 year old Cameron Fenton took an impressive double victory in Ginetta Junior Ireland at Mondello Park last weekend. In testing on Saturday, the Greystones driver had made improvements to the car and swapped times with series leader Patrick Dempsey all day. In qualifying, Dempsey snatched pole position, with Fenton just a few tenths away and confident of scoring his first win in front of a capacity crowd,
Dempsey led away but Fenton kept the pressure on as the pair eased away from the rest and when Dempsey spun off, he assumed the lead and cruised to a dominant victory, crossing the line with a winning margin of over 15 seconds.
In race two, buoyed by his debut win, the St Andrews College student made his trademark rocket like start, grabbing the lead on the run to turn one. With closest challenger Dempsey spinning again, it was a relatively easy double on what was the perfect day for the new championship leader
Cameron Fenton: “I was aiming for my first win this weekend. We tested well and made significant improvements to the car on Saturday and it all went to plan on race day. Patrick and myself are very closely matched and I am looking forward to some more great battles throughout the season. I’m confident that with some more testing, there is even more pace to come!”
