Carey, from Ratoath in County Meath is the reigning BOSS Ireland single seater champion, having raced a new generation Formula Renault car in 2017, run by his family Mooretown Engineering team.
Having won the prestigious Young Driver award and utilising the support from both Motorsport Ireland and Sport Ireland, Cian graduates to the F3 Cup in the UK for the 2017 season.
Cian’s VW powered Dallara F3 car will be run by the Chris Dittmann Racing (CDR) Team and the 23 year old has already settled in well with his new car and team.
After a number of productive test days, Cian topped the testing times yesterday by a tenth of a second ahead of this weekend’s opener.
Cian Carey, Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of The Year:
“I think we are really well prepared ahead of this weekend. I’m really enjoying working with CDR- we have tested well and having just done a new tyre run yesterday, I’m happy with the balance ahead of qualifying! It is going to be really close, but we should be right up there!”
