County Kildare circuit Mondello Park has announced its first Historic Racing Festival, which is to take place on Sunday August 27th. Reflecting the circuits’ rich heritage and roots, the event will see Classic and Historic Racing take over the track with all of the Historic Irish Car and Motorcycle Racing classes on show, as well as visiting UK Racers.
The Historic Racing Car Association (HRCA) will bring their two championships to the event, the ‘HRCA Historic Racing Cars’ class and the ‘Pre ’55’ Class. They will be joined by the more modern retro racers of the ‘micksgarage.com Future Classics’. On two wheels, spectators will be entertained by the Irish Classic Bike Racing Championship as well as the slightly less vintage eighties and nineties machinery of the Classic Superbike Championship.
Speaking about the Historic Racing Festival, Mondello Park General Manager Roddy Greene said “We’re looking forward to the 27th of August and particularly the action on track. We’re returning to our roots for this event in more than one way, harking back to the glory days of motorsport in Ireland. The Historic Racing Festival is one for motorsport enthusiasts as it’s a straight up racing festival, which is what Mondello Park was built for. We are aiming to build this event into something spectacular over the coming years and are expecting a big crowd of car and motorcycle enthusiasts of all ages to come along and join in the fun.”
Speaking on behalf of the HRCA; Ken McAvoy stated; “The HRCA would like to congratulate Mondello Park on initiating this first Historic Racing Festival at the circuit. The HRCA have been interested in seeing such a festival develop in Ireland for many years, and hope that 2017 will be the start of something that will grow to become an international attraction. The HRCA will fully support the August 27th event with grids of cars from our pre 1976 and pre 1955 race series.”
With interest in historic racing growing world wide, fuelled by the phenomenal success of events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed; the announcement of the Mondello Park Historic Racing Festival is a welcome addition to Motorsport in Ireland.
Further details of the event will be made available over the coming weeks and all the info will be available from www.mondellopark.ie.
