Hillclimb, Rally & Autotest results
Victory for Joe Courtney at the Donegal Knockalla Hillclimb, his eighth of
the season, clinched the Naylor Engineering National Hillclimb and Sprint
Championship for the Galwayman for the third year in a row.
He was more than two seconds quicker than second placed Rory Stephens on the
opening day of the double header weekend, and Dubliner Stephens then went on
to win yesterday’s second leg, his first ever outright success after being a
leading title contender for many years.
Monaghan’s Moffett brothers again dominated the Enniskillen Lakeland Stages
Rally, taking first and third positions, with Josh, the younger of the duo,
beating big brother Sam this time in their pair of Fiestas. Last year, the
pair tied on times, and Sam got the verdict on tie-deciding, but this was
Josh’s year. Jonny Greer’s Citroen was sandwiched between the Moffetts in
second place.
Kilkenny’s Ian White took a weekend double in West Cork, with his Mini
Special topping the results on both days of the Cork and Munster clubs’
opening rounds of the Hewison Autotest Championship. These were White’s
first National Championship wins, although he has won the Munster title for
the last two years. He was four seconds ahead of Timmy Lynch in torrential
rain at Ballyvourney on Saturday, and ten seconds in front of the Kerryman
yesterday, with Guy Foster from Meath third each time.
