Mondello Park plays host to the Leinster Motor Club’s annual Festival of Motor Racing the ‘Leinster Trophy’ races on Saturday and Sunday September 16th and 17th. The traditional season ending two day event will feature the final rounds of many of Ireland’s Car Racing championships, culminating in the ‘Leinster Trophy’ feature race on Sunday.
For the second year in succession the fast and loud single seater racers of the BOSS Ireland Championship will battle for the most famous trophy in Irish Motorsport, which was first presented in 1934. The trophy is inscribed some of the most famous names in motor racing including Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Mike Hawthorn and a number of former winners will be on the grid for Sunday’s race including current trophy holder Hywel Lloyd.
Following his triumph in disastrous weather conditions in 2016, Welshman Lloyd will return with his Formula 3 Dallara hoping to get a chance to repeat the feat in the dry. Opposition to the former British F3 Championship racer will come from a variety of machinery from classes such as Formula 3000, Formula 3 and Formula Renault driven by Ireland’s top single seater racers.
Adding to the noise and power of the ‘Leinster Trophy’ event will be a demonstration run by Dan Daly with his Jordan 192 Formula One car. Having been restricted to two slow laps at the end of the day by the streaming wet conditions last year, Daly has agreed to return this year to hopefully show fans just what his fantastic piece of Irish Motorsport history is capable of.
Alongside the BOSS Ireland races and F1 demonstration the Mondello Park International track will see a number of Irish titles decided over the two days. Headlining the supporting programme will be the Fiesta Championships, with two races each for the Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta ST’s and the Mondello Park Fiesta Zetec’s. Also on the bill will be a variety of Single Seater, Saloon, Sportscar and Historic Racing classes.
Tickets for the Leinster Trophy weekend can be purchased at reduced prices from www.mondellopark.ie Further information including the timetable will be released over the coming days.
