Welsh driver Steve Wood and his Limerick co-driver Keith Moriarty dominated the Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally over the weekend for the second year in succession, with their Subaru Impreza winning by 40 seconds from the Fiesta of Ian Barrett and Eoin O’Flaherty.
Wood and Moriarty opened out an overnight lead of 41 seconds over Barrett and O’Flaherty, and were content to hold that gap through yesterday’s nine stages. The Escort of Gary Kiernan and Ryan Moore held third position for most of the two days, finishing just eleven seconds behind the runners up in the highest placed two wheel drive car.
National title holder Ian O’Connell was the winner of the Westmeath round of the Naas Driving Academy Training Solutions Grass Autocross Championship at Killucan, with John Nolan taking top place in the Cavan Multi Venue Autotest at Latton.
