One of the most iconic Formula One cars, and certainly the most “Irish” one, the Guinness/Rizla liveried March 811 will return to Mondello Park for their keenly anticipated Historic Festival on August 17/18.
Ireland’s Derek Daly raced this car in the 1981 World Championship and in fact demonstrated the car at Mondello Park that year, as part of a Guinness promotion.
Daly will also return to the circuit for what promises to be a wonderful weekend for Historic Motor Racing fans.
This has been made possible thanks to John Campion, an US based Irish expat. Campion is a big supporter of Irish Motorsport talent and a major benefactor of the Team Ireland initiative, which promotes and nurtures young talent in Irish Motorsport. Campion added the Guinness liveried car to his impressive collection in recent times and is delighted to be bringing the car back to Mondello Park almost 40 years after it initially appeared at the Kildare venue, as a state of the art Formula One Car.
John Campion, CJJ Motorsports: I am excited to bring this car back to Mondello Park at at time when we are enjoying something of a renaissance in Irish motorsport. We have a great relationship with our young drivers, Jordan Dempsey, James Roe Jr and Craig Breen and are enjoying watching them progress towards the top. There are three main sponsors on this car. the first one is Guinness, the seconds one is Moulin Rouge, which is an interesting establishment in Paris and the third one is Rizzla, who make rolling papers. We got all the sins covered there, I guess!”
Roddy Greene, Mondello Park. “Everybody at Mondello Park is very excited to have this iconic car returning to Mondello after such a long time. Derek Daly is very much an Irish hero and to have him come back at the same time is the icing on the cake. We are hugely thankful to John Campion for making this possible!”
