Yorkshire Motorsport Festival hosts inaugural Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb
The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival is delighted to report that the numbers applying to compete in the inaugural Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb are such that the event is expected to reach full capacity in the coming few weeks.
The opportunity to take part in such a unique event – Yorkshire’s first closed-road Speed Hillclimb this century – has attracted entries from both the local area and well outside of the region.
“The response since the event was launched in January has been really excellent,” enthuses Yorkshire Motorsport Festival Joint-MD, Michael McErlain. “The prospect of competing amid all of that incredible scenery on a road course has really captured people’s imagination, and we have some fantastic motor cars already lined up for the event. It’s truly exciting and very gratifying to see that response locally has been great – but also that our reach is well beyond that.”
2020 was to have been the year which that saw the running of the Holme Moss 100th Anniversary Hillclimb a few miles away from the Wolfstones course, however, that event has not been able to go-ahead because of problems with the course.
“It is very unfortunate that the Holme Moss 100 event has not been able to go-ahead,” continues Michael ‘but we are happy to be able to give people who want to compete in this area the opportunity of still doing so. We have also committed to ensuring that this significant anniversary for both local motorsport and Yorkshire as a whole, does not go unmarked. We have decided therefore to make 100 Years of Speed Hillclimbing in the area a major theme of the Festival and are putting together an exciting programme to honour the occasion – which we will soon announce details of.”
The Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb, open to two-seater cars manufactured before 1978, will take place over a 0.8 mile course outside the town of Holmfirth across the weekend of 26-28th June. The course will be open for demonstration runs on Friday 26th, with competition starting in earnest on Saturday 27th and continuing on Sunday 28th.
