Kevin Coyne will continue with his HEL Performance British Junior Supersport campaign with a visit to Oulton Park this weekend.
The young Farranfore racer will have the benefit of an upgraded engine for his maiden visit to the Cheshire track.
This weekend’s event marks the halfway point of his maiden attempt at the series aimed at 13 to 22-year-old racers and Coyne is the first Kerryman to commit to the series.
Coyne and his father Mark have been punching above their weight in the UK since the sport resumed there in late July. Their races are part of the support package in the prestigious British Superbike Championship and many of their class rivals are run by professional teams and have career aspirations.
He has fully recovered from a leg injury sustained during a qualifying incident at Silverstone at the start of the month and reset his sights on his previous target of top 20 finishes.
He has called upon the expertise one of Ireland’s top racers to prepare for his Oulton Park visit.
Ryan Farquhar, who was one over 200 closed-road motorcycle races in a career that spanned 2003 to 2016 has offered mechanical advice to the 18-year-old self-funded racer.
“We had some serious issues with power,” his father Mark said. “We were, by far, the slowest bike in Silverstone. Hopefully, it is sorted now. Thank you Ryan Farquahar and Ian Dawson for their help.”
Dawson has been part of Farquahar’s backroom staff throughout his career and one of the most respected engineers in Irish motorcycle racing.
