Instaforex Loprais Praga Team update to Praga V4S DKR
A new heart for ‘The Lady’
The Dakar Rally 2022 preparations for the Instaforex Loprais Praga Team are underway. In the team’s workshop, some significant changes are going on for the Praga V4S DKR.
This truck, introduced by Aleš Loprais in 2019, took part in last two editions of Dakar Rally. In both cases, Praga made it to the end and was classified amongst the best in the truck category. Yet, The Lady, which is its nickname, is now going through lots of changes. Following the gained experience in Saudi Arabia, the development continues to deliver more power and reliability for the Dakar truck.
“The biggest innovation is a new engine, which offers 10% more performance than its predecessor. We could go even higher, but we have decided not to go there, because it would take away some reliability of certain components,” says Aleš Loprais about the new power unit from Iveco, which produces up to 1,000 bhp with a torque 4,400 Nm/min-1.
“We have also worked on new software for our automatic gearbox, and the truck has a new cooling system. Currently, both – new one as well as old one – have been fitted in, so we can compare them during testing.”
The Lady should get its first short shakedown within the next few days, with intensive testing coming up in usual locations.
If it works out, we’d like to run in the Czech Republic, but we also want to test in Poland. We can use our data from previous years to compare everything,” explains the 41-year-old driver.
“But we’ve got only August and September for some thorough testing because, after that, we want to finally do something, we wanted to do last year, but it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. And that means we will have to ship the truck to the Middle East in October already. There, we plan to do some more testing, and at the beginning of November, we would like to take part in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge,“ continues the 15-time Dakar participant.
In the team’s workshop, there is also a lot of work happening for the Tatra Jamal – Queen 69, that made its comeback in this year’s Dakar with Jan Tománek, Tomáš Kašpárek and Jiří Stross.
“The Lady is the priority, but we will also prepare The Queen to help us during testing or other purposes. However, right now, there are no plans of running it at the Dakar 2022,”adds Loprais.
