Gillan to hit the road running in various Motorbike Road Racing Series
Experienced and successful Mayo based motorbike racer Michael Gillian is preparing for a seriously busy season ahead, competing in a number of road racing championship on both sides of the border, as well as selected rounds of the Mondello Masters Superbike championships.
The Sheffield born mechanical engineer who resides in Claremorris aims to participate mostly in the Ulster Superbike Championship and the Southern 100 series which takes in high profile events in Cooksdown, Tandgragee, Kells, Munster, Skerries, Faugheen, Armoy & Walderstown.
Heretofore while behind the handlebars of Suzuki SV 650 and GSFX 1000 bikes Michael raced often and achieved much over the years. He was runner-up in the 2019 Mondello Masters Supertwin series, following on from his third overall placing in the Superbike category. More recently he won the Cookstown 100 Junior Support Race, back-to-back in 2020 and 2021 and also recorded second position in the Armoy Junior Series Race.
For Michael’s 2022 campaign, he will race two specially prepared Suzuki bikes – a GSXR 750, prepared by Dey’s Motorsport, that will compete in the Senior Support Road Races and Mondello Masters Superbike Class while his SV650 will take on the challenge of the Junior Support and Supertwin categories, together with a few runs in the Mondello Masters Supertwins.
Micheal is grateful of the support of Dey’s Motorsport from Ballyvary for greeting the bike ready for the season ahead and proving servicing after each race. He also appreciates the contribution from long serving and new sponsors backing his busy programme. “Yes, the support from various companies such as Mayo Plant Hire, Knock Storage Solutions, Priory Motorcycles; Dublin, Hideout Pub, Helite Airvest, Fleet Transport and irishmotorsportsnews.com is appreciated. It is essential that we have good financial backing in order to achieve our goals during the season ahead.”
