Alex Denning chosen for Aston Martin Academy in the GT4 European Series
Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Alex Denning has been given a fantastic opportunity as he continues to climb the motorsport ladder with his eyes firmly on a professional career as a GT Driver. The Rathfarnham youngster, already a multiple motorsport champion at just 23 years old, will now compete in the GT4 European Series as part of a Pro-Am pairing with Newbridge Motorsport, alongside Matt Topham. Topham, alongside works Aston Martin driver Darren Turner, has twice taken the British GT Championship Pro-Am GT 4 division..
The Aston Martin Academy initiative, run annually, is designed to fast-track talent from within AMR’s partner team network and is open to drivers aged between 17 and 26 competing in Vantage GT3 and GT4 race programmes in eligible championships.
The prize on offer for the successful graduate includes financial support towards their 2024 race programme, as well as assistance and guidance from the factory, tailored to their season plans. Further evaluation of the most outstanding candidates may also include a test in a Vantage GT3 at the end of the 2023 season.
The candidates benefit from a three-day seminar that includes media training with FIA World Endurance Championship commentator Louise Beckett, simulator training at Base Performance, a DNAFit assessment including a bespoke training programme and nutrition plan, Aston Martin Racing in-house commercial training and a factory-based engineering workshop to further their understanding of how to competitively set-up the GT4 Vantage.
Alex Denning: ““I am over the moon to be signed by Aston Martin Racing onto their Drivers Academy for 2023 after a very successful debut outing in the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in Jerez in February.
The plan is to be at the front of all the Aston Martins and hopefully even the overall grid. I recognise that it is a first for myself in the car and a first for all of the team to be competing out in the European championship but we are confident in our abilities to adapt quickly.
It is a true honour to be representing an organisation with such heritage and success in the motoring world. To incorporate my wonderful network of corporate partners in this amazing journey is simply a dream come true. A special thanks to all my partners for their continued hard work and support into 2023. Without them, none of this would have been possible.
Now let’s do Ireland proud, and get the Irish flag on the podium in Europe”
