Pirelli’s new studded tyre, dedicated to Scandinavian
Countries and extreme driving conditions, is what inspired a new watch by Roger Dubuis, the
Excalibur Pirelli ICE ZERO 2. It is making its début at the same time as its namesake tyre, at the
Pirelli proving ground in Flurheden, in Swedish Lapland.
The new watch, which is an integral part of the iconic collection developed by Roger Dubuis with
Pirelli Design, with its established sports styling and famous signature skeleton calibre, features a
double skeleton flying tourbillon –one of the world’s highest complications in the realm of Haute
Horlogerie – and is powered by the RD105SQ Calibre, certified by Poinçon de Genève. The Excalibur
Pirelli ICE ZERO 2, of which only eight limited edition pieces are to be made, is striking thanks to the
strap, which is decorated with the same studded pattern that characterises the tyres that inspired its
conception. Made of steel in the new watch and aluminium in Pirelli’s studded tyres, the studs
constitute the distinguishing feature of both products: to tackle extreme conditions, which are
typically found in Scandinavian countries, this type of tyre is the most effective solution to “grip” even
icy road surfaces where rubber fails to find a good grip. Indeed, to maximise safety as well as driving
satisfaction in the toughest situations, the number of studs on the tread of the Ice Zero 2 has been
enhanced from the first-generation 130 to its current 190. It is the tracks, that the stud distribution
creates, which inspired the pattern on the strap of this version of Excalibur. Moreover, like all the
straps on Limited Edition Pirelli watches, the Excalibur Pirelli ICE ZERO 2 also contains rubber inlay
sourced from P Zero tyres which took part and won the major motorsports races where Pirelli is the
sole supplier.
This model marks the continuation of the partnership between Pirelli and Roger Dubuis, which
started in 2017 and stands out for its exclusiveness, technical skills and the most innovative
materials, as well as the shared focus on styling and the approach taken by both concerns towards
Research and Development.
Pirelli Design was born as an incubator for high-end projects that highlight the technical know-how, high
