Two more Motorsport Ireland Sexton Trophy nominees announced
Motorsport Ireland has announced the next two monthly nominees for 2024 Sexton Trophy Young Racing Driver of the Year award. This year, nominations will come in the form of a monthly selection, as adjudicated by the members of the Motorsport Ireland Race Commission, with selections coming from the pool of MI-licenced drivers for their performances at home and abroad.
August Nomination:
Logan Hoey
The judging panel wished to highlight the particular performance of Hoey during the ICCR at Mondello Park, with a Race 1 victory in tricky wet conditions, followed by setting a lap record in Race 2.
September Nomination:
Joshua Henry
For Henry, a pair of race wins at Anglesea, along with a new lap record for that track put him on the radar for the judges to consider and ultimately award him the monthly nomination for September.
Over the coming months, one more monthly nominee will be selected, with potential wildcards added to the mix at the end for standout drivers who just didn’t quite secure one of the previous spots. The longlist of nominees will then undertake a formal interview process in November with a panel of judges representing Motorsport Ireland, Sport Ireland, the Motorsport Ireland Race Commission and members of the media.
The Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year award and the historic Sexton Trophy are presented to the individual who has demonstrated the most potential to represent Ireland at home and internationally both on the track as well as in the public eye. The winner will receive a €50,000 support package to help develop their motor racing career.
The overall winner of the 2024 award will be announced at the Motorsport Ireland Champions Awards Lunch in December. The award is presented annually and is supported by Sport Ireland and Motorsport Ireland.
